If you have an Android phone here is a must have app, I’m still looking for an iPhone or PC one, let me know if you know of a good one.
Here is the Wi-Fi Analyzer app in a nutshell; you can scan nearby wireless access points and show which spot has the best signal and least traffic.

The app does a good job of showing which nearby hotspots that offer the best connection possibilities.
In this view you can see which channels on the router you’re connected to would offer the best connection.
Which that’s neat by itself, but the free app can also help you boost your home wireless network.
I use this at my office, and by moving my router around and found, that if I moved the router to that left rack of my server room I had a stronger signal. Then I switched my router channels around and that helped improve it even more. You can do the same thing at your house.
Pretty handy tool to have on your phone, the Wi-Fi Analyzer is a free download for Android phones only.
To download go to Android Market Place and Search “Wi-Fi Analyzer”
