QNAP Releases the 8-bay TS-859 Pro+ Turbo NAS

QNAP is once again aiming at business users with their 8-bay TS-859 Pro+ Turbo NAS. The device is powered by Intel’s dual-core 525 Atom processor with 1.8 GHz and 1GB RAM in support, allowing transfer rates of up to 116 MB/s.

This model comes with business network features including NFS and iSCSI target support, VMWare Ready and Citrix Ready certifications as well as support for Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V. Active Directory support is also available out of the box. Other features including web, FTP, print and file server capabilities.

At a price of $1,579, the TS-859 Pro+ supports remote encrypted replication to a second compatible storage device, and additional data protection is offered via RAID 0, 1, 5, 5 + hot spare, 6, 6 + hot spare, single, and JBOD disc configurations, including hot swap support for configurations for RAID 1 and above. Client backup is supported via the bundled NetBak Replicator software for Windows, as well as support for Apple Time Machine.

Taipei, Taiwan, November 2010 – QNAP Systems, Inc., a leading manufacturer of world class NAS servers today expanded their hugely popular Business Series Turbo NAS lineup with the addition of a new 8-drive desktop model, TS-859 Pro+ Turbo NAS. The TS-859 Pro+ incorporates Intel’s new D525 dual-core Atom CPU with 1.8GHz clock speed and 1GB RAM, which can achieve up to 116MB/s transfer rates (FTP/Samba reads) while maintaining guaranteed lower power consumption. The Turbo NAS provides up to 16TB of extremely large storage capacity (using 2TB hard drives and single disk volume/JBOD configuration), and is targeted for business users and workgroups who need a tower server to fit in their office environment for backup and sharing of enormous amount of documents, digital pictures, videos, and applications. Meanwhile, the TS-859 Pro+ has been certified as compatible NFS and iSCSI datastore with fully VMware Ready, Citrix Ready and Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V clusters compliant. QNAP continues its industry-leading iSCSI support for server clustering and virtualized environments including support for MC/S, MPIO, SPC-3, and thin provisioning. With built-in iSCSI initiator and target service, network storage can be virtually expanded by simply adding additional QNAP Turbo NAS units to the network and adding virtual volumes, up to 8 per device.

The new TS-859 Pro+ features a host of desirable features including support for 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch hard drives housed in lockable, hot-swappable drive carriers, RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 5+ hot spare, and 6+ hot spare with online RAID capacity expansion, online RAID level migration, and RAID recovery. The Turbo NAS offers a rich suite of business applications including the most comprehensive centralized backup available, website hosting, printer sharing, file server/sharing, and even video surveillance recording using network cameras. The capabilities of the Turbo NAS Pro+ units can be expanded with exclusive QPKG open-source developed for a variety of business applications including SQL database management, Customer Relationship Management (CRM), and even ecommerce.
