AT&T to cap DSL and U-Verse Internet, Impose Overages‎

AT&T to cap DSL and U-Verse Internet, Impose Overages‎

AT&T is putting a cap on data usage for DSL customers and charging a fee for anyone who goes over the limit. You probably will be disappointed to find out that starting May 2, 2011 AT&T will implement a 150GB monthly cap on landline DSL customers and a 250GB cap on subscribers to U-Verse high speed internet.

You are using too much Internet!

Any overage, will result in $10 fee for every additional 50GB of data. There will an online tool where customers will be able to check their usage, and see how close they are getting to the cap.

I feel like we’re back in 1999

AT&T defends their decision in terms of making broadband better for everyone because currently they have about 2% of their customers that use 20% of the bandwidth. In order to make it more fair, and to avoid having to throttle transfer speeds or disconnect excessive users from the service completely this new cap system will take place.

If only 2% of the users are using high levels of bandwidth, then what’s the problem? There should be plenty of bandwidth left over.

Its the future…its simply unsustainable to offer more and more bandwidth without raising prices. And what way is more fair than to have people who use that bandwidth pay for it. . People are using their bandwidth to replace their cable and phone service and expecting their broadband provider to just give them the capacity to do so.

It is an attempt to kill net nuetrality, and by imposing caps setting the way for the other providers to do so. i signed up for the service with no cap. and netflix and other services that use bandwidth are my choice to use. they should upgrade their networks instead of profiting from outdated tech.

AT&T internet services suck in every way possible. No service. I mean no service. Pure and simple idiots and they never get any better.
