It may come as annoyance when you install your new Windows Home Server 2011 platform and come to realize that you have no way of protecting it.
So far there has been no news, or takers for the development of an anti-virus for WHS 2011, that it to say until AVAST stepped up to the plate and intervened with a confirmation on the development of an anti-virus application for Windows Home Server 2011.

This bit of news comes from the following post this post on Microsoft’s WHS Forums, so for now we all have hang tight since when it comes to anti-virus protection all our eggs are in one Avast basket.

I don’t think it is one of the supported OS’s but Symantec Endpoint installed when I was running the Beta. I guess I will find out in the next few days……
I am using AVG Free (http://free.avg.com/us-en/download-avg-anti-virus-free) and I don’t even want to think of the moment when I will have to uninstall it because it would crash when installing Avast.
I am using McAfee SAAS. It works good. Though I am not a McAfee fan by any means, I had the license from my old home server and updating to version 5 was free so what the heck, we shall see if it continues to be a good solution.
Symantec Endpoint Protection running fine on my build. Tested it on MSDN build before going to full licienced server product. By the way, Endpoint is 11.6.6300.803. Hope thats a help to people.
I am running NOD32 x64 on mine. It installed without any complaints, and has been running fine since WHS2011 RTM.
Tim
Tim, which version of NOD32, the home or the business (server) version?
I was running NOD32 X64, Home Edition on WHS2011, but it would periodically become unresponsive and require a reboot from frozen state. Currently trying Endpoint Small business Edition and it’s running stable.
I’ve been using WHSClamAV for a few weeks on a new home built WHS 2011 machine. I’m not saying it it better or worse than any other, but it seems to do the job. It is open source and free of charge.
That’s the same one I use and to date it works well. And yes totally free.
Avast antivirus from V1 works well with windows home server 2011
I have been using ClamWin for WHS and it has been working great both on v1 and WHS 2011…. as far as I can tell lol. And it is free.
The key to antivirus software is to have something. There are so many viruses out there that simply get bypassed, BUT these are generally internet related viruses that need you to be browsing the internet to get them. Not such an issue on a server that people shouldnt be browsing the internet on to begin with.
Id like to get a good list of Free Antivirus that works with WHS V1 and WHS 2011
I just received this when attempting to renew Avast4 for WHS.
“We are going to stop offering virus definitions for Windows Home Server at the end of this year.”
