NASA says a large asteroid will have a close encounter with Earth on Tuesday Nov. 8. The aircraft carrier-size space rock will pass 201,700 miles from Earth — closer than the moon’s orbit.
Tuesday eve, (11/08/11, 6:28pm) NASA scientist, as well as amateur and professional astronomers will be focusing their telescopes on Asteroid 2005 YU 55 as it goes by 201,000 miles (323,469 km) from Earth. The unique trajectory of the 1,312 feet (400 meters) rock will allow the scientists a chance to study it without having to go through the difficulties of launching a probe. As close at it will get, not to worry, according to NASA’s Don Yeomans there is no chance that it will collide with the Earth or moon.
