Remote Alert Breaks Twofactor WHS

Hi everyone,

I tried Remote Alert, but one big problem that I found, is that it broke another Add In that I use called TwoFactor WHS (http://twofactorwhs.codeplex.com/). I use this so I can have two factor authentication by using my Yubikey to remotely log into my WHS. Is there anyway to get these two Add Ins to work together in harmony?

AXIS ip cameras

@all:

i use many axis cams in my home to have an eye on different things. Little childs in bedroom, front of the house to check the cars over night, backside from the house and for personal communication. The cams are normal ip cameras and video servers that can use normal video cams in color and b/w.

So if someone has problems with the axis cams, or you need some information about these ip-cam system, or you help ask me. So far as i can i will help out.

AXIS 200+, neteye, 2100, 2110, 2120, 241Q video server, sony color cams, jvc ptz cams and for some cams the audio servers (two way communication).

It's all my fault.

I can no longer see my server on my network. I was monkeying with windows and tried a configuration that didn't work and now nothing shows, but it's running.

Question 1 - Is there a way for tme to get into the server and re-install the home server software?

Question 2 - What delightful hardware item fits in the slot on side the mother board?

I'll be saying a few hail Marys while you consider a reply.

Help on Installing WHS on my Server

I have a Arima HDAMA Rev G Motherboard Server with 1 Sata drive attached as well as a USB Drive (for Drivers) and the DVD Drive from a spare PC (for Installing OS). When I install the OS from the DVD it get to the "Install Drivers" part and I point the setup to the USB drive where the Sata driver is located. Then the hard drive gets formatted and all the files are installed on the hard drive. When this is finnished it tells me to remove the media and press any key to re-boot. Then nothing..... I can't remember the exact wording, it wasmidnight last night when I finally got finished :( but it appeared not to see the Sata drives.

I have noticed that when I go to the Bios screen (the latest bios has been added with the latest Silicom Image SATA ROM added) there seems to be no hard drives listed! even tho the computer sees the Sata Drive on its own Raid setup!

Previous install was Win XP on 40 gig partition and remaining 109 gig was blank.

Any suggestions?

iTunes 10

I have the HP MediaSmart Server EX485 (2.5).

Running the iTunes server, all of my computers (Mac and Windows) running iTune 9.x can access the iTunes Server just fine.
However on the 2 that I have upgraded to iTues 10, in iTunes I can still see the "HP MediaSmart Server" on the left under "Shared", however when you click on it there is nothing listed on the right where you should see all the songs.

Like I said, all still working well with iTunes 9.2.1, but not with iTunes 10.

Anyone else experiencing this? Anyone have a solution?

Aurora default TCP/IP IPv6?

I am running Aurora inside of a virtual machine so that I can easily test and revert changes. Whilst debugging a connection issue I decided to ping my Aurora server and noticed that it does not have any IPv4 address assigned to it. Is this the new standard?

Is WOL a standard like WiFi? Can I use this add-in to control and wake up other devices on my network using wake on LAN without having to install the AWIECO software on each?

Lights Out Service will not start

I have been unable to start the Light Out Service since I upgraded my BIOS. I have reinstalled the program several times and also removed all other add-ins in an attempt to remove any conflicts and resolve the issue but nothing I try seems to work. No other programs have been installed since the BIOS update and the date and time on the Server is correct.

I now feel there may be a setting in the BIOS itself which is causing this issue. I could change some of the more obvious settings in an attempt to resolve this but if anyone has any suggestions on which BIOS setting(s) are likely to be causing this issue, it would be greatly appreciated.

Automatic Power-On WHS after UPS Shutdown

I've googled and searched by other means but haven't found a clear answer.

How have users configured their WHS (more specifically HP EX495) to power on automatically after AC power has been restored when an Add-In like Grid Junction has shutdown WHS due to an AC power failure? I know with client PC's one has to enable this through the BIOS but I don't know if a WHS like the HP EX495 is factory configured to do this. Also, I'm not quite sure how any computer connected to a UPS would sense that power is restore as long as the UPS' battery is still able to supply power so if anyone can enlighten me I'd appreciate it.

Uploading files to my server via Remote Access

I just uploaded files from an SD card to my server via RA. When I logon via Firefox V3.6.8 and click the "Upload" arrow and clicked "Browse", Firefox croaks ("Not Responding").

Has anyone seen this before?

So, used IE8 instead. I could get to do the upload, but this functionality did not nohor the SHIFT ket, so I had to upload multiole files one at a time.

Has anyone seen this before?

My new MB / BIOS w/ WHS OEM install won't see more than 4 HDDs

I need help - WHS install went fine. I have no Data except O/S on my sys Then installed the 4 WD 2TB Storage drives. Problem is the MB /Bios won't detect all 5 hdds. I figured out which WD drive it wasn't seeing thinking it was DOA, so I removed it and placed it in a diff computer and it recognized the hdd immediately. I then took and old drive and placed it in my new build - the new computer recognized the "old" drive but then only saw sys drive and 2 of the WD drives. It seems the MB / bios won't see more than 4 devices period.!

I have bios set to "native IDE" ,raid disabled. sata controller enabled.

I don't have any cards or optical drive installed

I just called tech Gigabyte support who said they have not heard of this problem and I shold up date to newest Bios. No other suggestios. I don't know what vers of bios I have (I am currently at work) but will flash if I have an old one . Doesn't seem too hopeful.

Any ideas at all ?

Hi everyone,

I have alittle problem with my WHS back, basically I had a version of WHS which expired so I managed to backup my files onto a external hardrive. I installed my new copy of the software and copied all my backup files back over but now I can’t seem to open any of my files? Can anyone help or suggest how to fix this problem please as this is for my small business and is causing allot of problems for me.

Serial Port Support?

Is serial port support ever coming back? I read a post a long time ago about a serial port driver. I've got a great datacenter grade 1000VA APC UPS but it only has serial port support. I'm relegated to running the WHS box on a consumer grade ups.

Seems to be caused by the following error in the eventlog:

Create Database: Unable to load the native components of SQL Server Compact corresponding to the ADO.NET provider of version 8080. Install the correct version of SQL Server Compact. Refer to KB article 974247 for more details.

This is on Vail Preview Refresh.

I am new to home server land. I would appreciate for a bit of advice.

I want to use windows home server to store all media data on my media center PC's. I also want to share it to other DLNA and UPNP conected devices. I have built my own windows home server and i was wondering if there are any add ons that enable whs to be DLNA compatable?

I was also wondering if media center is compatable with UPNP and dlna?

I am new to windows home server and i was wondering if anyone nows of any websites that give detailed information about windows home server working with media centre?

Addin for updating IPv6 tunnels automatically

Hello there,

I'm not much of a C (anything) programmer, but have done some coding in Java and Visual Basic. What I would like to know is if anyone is developing an addin to automatically update an IPv6 tunnel with your current IPv4 endpoint address? I have an account through he.net (tunnelbroker), and have the php script for updating their site with my endpoint. While I could easily code it in VB or Java, I wouldn't be able to put it into the WHS Console (which I want to do, since the server is supposedly "up" 24/7 where my desktops/laptops may not be).

I guess my questions are these:

1. Is anyone else working on an updater that could be used with he.net (or multiple tunnel providers)?

2. If I create one in Visual Basic (or Java) how hard would it be to convert it to the required format (Programming language and installer) for WHS?

I know there is a template for creating a WHS addin, and will look at that to see what I would need to change. I'm mainly interested in developing this for v1, as that's the version that I am running. If the installer can be used for both v1 and v2, then I would develop it for both (my limitation being that I'm on a 32-bit version of Windows).

Hello. With version 1.5.0 my APC Back UPS 550 LCD worked well. Version 1.5.1 can not find the UPS. On the server I have switched to the APC service active or inactive. I had the apxsystray Remove from the processes. It does not work easily. The UPS is not recognized by grid. I use first Powerchute again.

It would be useful to have the ability to trigger scripts for more events. For example I would like to have an event script(email) when the power is restored. For short dropouts this would save the need to connect to the server to check the status. I use my WHS with the UPS as a power monitor for a vacation home. The lost power events help to prevent problems with frozen pipes in the winter, the power restored event would tell me not to worry.

It would be useful to be able to trigger separate event scripts for: Power Lost, Battery Critical, Shutdown, and Power Restored.

Windows Search - Is it needed by anything else in the whs console?

Hello there,

I guess I am talking crazy beings I have not seen anyone else console. However, on the acer h342 the console comes with pre-installed items. I was wondering if windows search was being utilized by any of them or is it just working on its own on the server for easy file searches? I know it is small potatoes but I only use the server as a file server and have everything else like media server, itunes, dms etc turned off.

I was just curious if I could take it out of startup and remove it from the server. I really have no use for it. I just don't want to hurt the functionality of any other program or add-in.

I know I can always reinstall it if there is a problem, but I figure once again if I am asking then maybe someone else will want to know as well.

WAL for a HP EX490

Hi,

I've just bought and setup a HP Media smart server EX490.

If I right click on the windows home server connector on my laptop there is a option, in the menu, to wake the server. I've tried a few times to use this but it doesn't appear to work.

Is there a option in the home server itself I need to set as I can not get into the bios as it's headless?

Lights Out and Schedule along with remote access

Hello there,

I was wondering if anyone has a decent schedule for having their WHS server utilizing LightsOut? I am wondering about a couple things:

1. Should I download the add-in for lights out or is the one that is installed with the acer good enough?
2. If I should download and install the other lightsout do I need to remove the other lights out first through add remove programs?
3. I currently am on the machine and accessing the WHS server till about 1am and then I start again in the morning at about 8am. How would I configure the server to hibernate or suspend during that time and which is the better option?
4. Is there any other add-ins I will need to achieve these results?

Also, on a side note I know there is a page that has to do with the best add-ins, but I would prefer people in the community here to say" You can't live without these add-ins, everyone should have them on their server" so if there are any that you really think should be on the server please let me know. I already have REMOTE ALERT and DISKEEPER.
