Is an easy way to meta tag and organize all my music ? I have a lot of purchased music but some from other sources such as friends and other places. These usually mess everything up and break my playlist. Sometimes I have one album show up as 2 or 3 albums both with the same name?
Does anyone know any tips how to best categorize and catalog a lot of music files for the Zune player?
I have about 68GB of music, that's about 12,000 songs from 1,300 albums stored on my home server. I use Windows Media Player for the album art and the meta-data.
Sometimes it is simple to gather the information like your purchased albums. Expect to spend time on other "contributed" songs. When an album appears more than once, it is usually inconsistency with the album artist. Below is an example of "Freedom Suite" that shows twice. The songs are from the same album but two songs assigned "The Rascals" and the remaining 12 "Rascals. I found it is best that if the artist uses the word "The" to include it for the album artist.
Double click the album you want to change, select the tracks, right-click for options, and click the Advanced Tag Editor option.
To change the meta-data, select the tab, Artist Info in our example, click the checkbox for Album Artist and change the name.
Don't ask me how much time I spent cleaning up my library. It's a good rainy day project...
