Access Denied Error When Copy from WHS to Client

Not Answered
  • Not sure if this is a "feature" of WHS or if I am not going about this properly;
    I would like to back up certain shared folders from WHS to a client machines' external HDD.
    I generally use SecondCopy or Beyond Compare but I keep getting an Access Denied error from the WHS source path.
    I have tried installing these programs onto the server (via RDP, and running via RDP), but with the same results as those on the client.
    I have tried the mapped path and the UNC path.
    I can do a normal copy/paste with no problem, from either the client or WHS (via RDP).
    I have tried using the OEM Backup program on the server, but it gives an error that the source device is not ready (wtf?).

    I'm fairly confused at this point, and am not sure if I am not aware of some security feature that might not allow this, but why would copy/paste work? All either of those two programs are doing is an automated, scripted copy function really.
    I tried to use RoboCopy GUI, but was immediately bewildered when it immediately stopped after it started, saying it had completed. When I went to look at the log... there was no log (don't know what's up with that either).

    Anyone have any ideas, or suggestions on how one can backup from WHS? I do not want to use the eUSB on the server as a backup device, since a> I would not be able to get an eUSB large enough, and b> I want to spread the backups out over several eHDD's on the local network.
