  • Thumbs up for Remote Alert. I had installed v1.3, now just update to1.35. haven't had any issue yet

  • Howdy Fellow WHS Users & Creator of this pretty kewl App.

A few things I noticed I had to do and a few possible bugs......

    1. After I installed the 1.3.5.0 Beta (This being my first install of this app) and found out the hard way that the server needed a rebooting after the install, Nothing worked right until I did.....it actually crashed the RDP session twice until I figured out that a reboot was nessesary.

2 The Second thing is when I click on the HISTORY button and Double Click a Exclamation Point Triangle... At first I would get a Flag from the IP country of Origin or from the Local Private network.......now it comes up with an X as if it cant find the icon repository. this is about 12 hours after my install

    3. The Activity Tab shows  127.0.0.1 for any user that is logged in outside of the local network......and doesnt show what resources they are digging thru

My Windows Home Server is Custom Built and not and HP.  It has only one Nic Card, over 2GB's of Mem & as of last night it was Fully up to date witht he last 13 updates microsoft dished out to everyone across the globe.  Anyone else having this same issue??

Also on a different note...... Not sure what good the "Website" Log is really trying to tell me??  Is it supposed to show what someone who logged on is/was looking at? Seems like too much was of processing power filling up worthless logs.  Is it trying to do the same thing that the "Directory Watcher" App is trying to do??

Thx & Great App, just needs some tweaking :D

  • Hello Test4echo3 thank you for your feedback.

    1.  It is not required to restart the server, just the WHS Console when you install the Remote Alert addin.  But it is a common practice amongst IT geeks to reboot after all installs, just to make sure that all works.  However I have never had to reboot my WHS after installing Remote Alert.

    2. When you found this problem did you reboot your WHS.  If this is the case please try to uninstall the addin restart the WHS then install it again and restart the server.  Hopefully this sorts your problem out.

    3.  For me the time it shows 127.0.0.1 or localhost and program is active and using resources such as TVeristy etc.

The website log tells you what resources are being access via IIS from users.  For example if you have a website in IIS for chat and someone accesses that it shows you.  This is usefull if people outside your network keeps accessing random addresses on your domain.  This feature was the first addin that did this and Directory Watcher is a stand alone addin (which is new out) that deals with what folders are being accessed.

The processing power that is being used is all done by the WHS OS not the addin as it is all found in the system records.

If you can please include any screenshots of the problems you are having so we can better help you out.

  • On my MSS the network activity is monitoring the wrong adapter 0_0.

It happens to be monitoring my Hamachi interface but that is hardly ever used so I get a flat line. It would be handy if it could monitor the physical adapter since that should cover the usage of Hamachi anyway (I think). Also the blacklist feature is this blocking all ports or just those that can be used to access my website? I wouldn’t want to cripple my torrents by blocking whole countries.

    Nice add-in BTW

  • Just added new version to add-in folder. Forgot to uninstall so it failed to install new version. Then tried to uninstall old (1.3) version but get the error "Uninstallation failed". Rebooted and still the same problem. Any ideas? Mike

The blacklist feature is specific to the remote access website and will not interfere with your torrents.
What are your network adapters labeled as? RA will try and pick the correct one by speed and type but we need to further improve this area in future versions. Please stay in touch so we can tackle and fix this Big Smile

  • Hello,

I've installed 1.3.5 but notice that (for me at least) on the Website tab the drop-down list of log files still does not refresh. The most recent date shown seems to be that of the file available on the date of the server's last reboot (in my case, ex091015.log). Is there a way to force a refresh, short of rebooting the server?

Also, is there a way to hide Local Network activity, similar to the checkbox for Localhost? I'd be interested in focusing on non-local IP address activity in the log.

Many thanks for this useful tool!

  • Thanks very much - worked well and new version works.

Only problem is that trying to install the UK.ra denial list I get the file window. I selected the UK.ra file I doenloaded and get the "busy" symbol of a revolving spoke spins but then nothing happens. Tried several times. When I move to another add-in tab and switch back even the import key no longer works.

  • @ MikeyG Alt+PageDown

The dialog is underneath the console. It needs to keep focus but doesn’t currently.

@ Alexander Kent (HSL)  2 Connections: One virtual and one Physical

    Hamachi - Virtual

    Local Area Connection - Physical

Local Area Connection is a SiS191 1000/100/10 Ethernet Device by Silicon Integrated Systems Corp. The driver is also procided by Silicon Integrated Systems Corp.

Also Hamachi is flatline at 0% but task manager always shows the Local Area Connection at 0.03 minimum regarldess of acticity.

  • @Kurt..... The console was restarted but I noticed the server was flakey and not responding well until I restarted it. As for the Flag Icons not showing up....they started working again all of a sudden.....so Im not sure what happened there.  Now as far as the web site button goes.......that window in my honest opinion is kinda worthless....This is a great little app but I think more time should be spent on making the activity window more useful, Show who and where someone is logged in from....and I mean on the outside network. Have some type of option to ban a user or an ip address of a bot or something to that effect.

    Thx for the reply

  • Thanks for your reply urmaster.

It solves the issue of the import button "no longer working". i.e. it was a focus issue on the file dialog box.

But it still doesn't address the fact that when I try to import the uk.ra list from the Kentdome website, it does not load (at least I cannot see it appear in the list box below).

Is the .ra list formatted correctly?  In the manual example on the webpage, the denial list includes IP address and domain but the text in the .ra file only has IP address plus a single digit after the comma.

One other observation about the denial list is the file extension .ra is one that Realplayer "claims". I temporarily removed the file association with Realplayer. But that did not fix the problem. I guess it must be pretty difficult to select an extension

    Mike.

  • Hi Mike,

I just checked and turned out the uploaded UK.ra file was indeed incomplete - sorry about that I have uploaded a fixed version and note that you do not need to change the extension for it to work.

Please let us know if this new file works for you?

  • great program so far, just a quick quesiton -

is there any way to disable this message on the login page " Remote alert warning", i rather not give people the heads up that they are being monitored !!

  • Thanks for this.

    Alexander,

Not sure why but it took me a lot of trial and error to download the file. Clicking on the link it originally tried to launch Realplayer. Hence my comment about the extension name. Dissassociated this. File save menu then appears. Saving it seems to download to location then delete file. Tried opening in a newtab/window. Neither completed. Eventually used BitComet to download it successfully. (By the way same problem with each of the links to China, US & Russia)
