Will this be available as an UPGRADE ONLY, as I have rebuilt my WhS and have lost the Original Alpha 1 of GridBurn?

Thanks Kurt; Yes Grid BURN alpha 2 had some console-lock-up hiccups so alpha 1 is still the most stable to use but the codebase is obsolete already.

It turns out that coding burning software is a lot more difficult than first anticipated, first one has to deal with mountains of code, lots of low level stuff and second it’s very technical, querying the device capabilities, the media specifications i.e. Write Speed, Media Type (CD/DVD/DVD-DL), journaling system and although there is some info on the internet, it tends to be for older technologies and in ways that are not really applicable to our needs.

That said, we do really like this add-in and we will certainly work to improve it – for this we will harness the power of the Add-in Central platform (currently in beta).

We plan to publish Grid BURN alpha 3 via Add-in Central shortly – given that there will be a number of Grid BURN versions in short succession (as we work to improve it) Add-in Central will be a good fit and will make staying up to date and updating Grid BURN versions a breeze.

I can say IM_GERMANY, I have been on the Alpha build of Grid BURN from April and it does work great, CD's and DVD's havnt got a chance to test out BluRay yet as both the drives and the discs are pricey.

It could take a while for you to be accepted into the testing as there is another build of it coming soon and as such no point wasting new peoples time to have them run and test the addin for a day or so.

I will message Alexander and alert him of your interest of the addin.

Im looking for a new NAS and after some years with a Linux based System i found some interesting WHS machines. I think this Add In is a killer and if it works, i will buy a WHS based NAS...(i think it will be the HP EX490).

I set up a WHS on my old PC, but what i dont have is Grid Burn :-)

Id like to test it, so can i help alpha testing?

Thanks Mike, we’ve been working on the burning engine and various other Grid BURN improvements but time was short. If possible we will try and make it available to download this weekend.

a friend from China have asked me something about GridBurn. I was alittle bit confused: where do you know GridBurn. He means: oh we know everything about homeserverland....

So now we know that the people from China takes a look sometimes here on HSL. Good to know. But i can't tell him something news. Only that he had to wait for the next release.

The URL file link I had for the GridBurnAlpha add-in no longer works and I have misplaced the addin (ok so I must have lost it during one of the many server rebuild and manual data transfers).

Is the Alpha still available? Having a Netbook now means this add-in is essential.

Thanks for being keen but Grid BURN alpha 2 from approx 1,1/2 weeks ago is still the latest
We have been distracted and working on some Windows app. development but perhaps we will continue to make progress with Grid BURN during the week over Thanksgiving.
