I too am in Australia and have been providing Powerware UPS's to my customers since Windows 98 days. I have a 700va 3105 model on my WHS. Was also disappointed to see unsupported device. Can I help?

Is anyone running both Remote Alert and the Whiist add-ins? Any issues?

I'm seeing some funny behavior relating to logging in and out of my server's Remote Access page -- like the login screen failing to appear, or a persistent "logged out due to inactivity" message -- that seem as though they may be tied-in with also logging in to the web page(s) created with Whiist on the same server, specifically a Whiist photo gallery page. I believe these issues started a few days ago when I installed Remote Alert; Whiist pages seemed to load fine before that.

Are there any known problems with running Remote Access and Whiist together?

Similar comment from me. I would be happy for you to display something along the lines of "This site monitored by Remote Alert", in order for Kentdome to get credit/exposure. I think the warning as it appears in 1.3.5 is a bit heavy-handed for a home server site... looks like something you'd see at a government or military site. I would make an analogy to the security-service yard signs people put in their front yards... versus the sterner signs posted at the entrance to miltary installations these days.

As far as the bad guys go, I don't think it matters whether or not the message is there... the ones who know what they're doing won't be put off by it.

custom time-blocking?

I had just one question about RemoteAlert : is it possible to specify a custom time-blocking for users when "brute force protection" is enable ?

A parameter in the registry perhaps ?

I have just hooked up my new apc back-ups xs 1300. I have installed grid junction and no ups is detected. I have not loaded any apc software on my computer or my whs.I have hooked the usb/ethernet cord and i can see a driver in the device manager that is associated to my ups. How do I get grid junction to detect my ups??

Would you expect the software to enumerate it as "generic" device or just fail to recognize it completely?

What have you seen with other "unknown" devices?

Read this as I have a nice stable environment and I am reluctant to mess with it.

800706BA Error and Windows Vista/7

I wanted to add this to the information about the 800706BA error. On your wiki page http://www.homeserverland.com/wiki/w/whs/rpc-server-unavailable-error-0x800706ba.aspx it says to use the netsh firewall set service RemoteAdmin command. While that works, Windows 7 responds with the following:

Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7600]

C:\Windows\system32>netsh firewall set service RemoteAdmin

IMPORTANT: Command executed successfully.

However, "netsh firewall" is deprecated;

use "netsh advfirewall firewall" instead.

For more information on using "netsh advfirewall firewall" commands

instead of "netsh firewall", see KB article 947709

Ok.

You may want to update the wiki to reflect that on Windows Vista/7 you need to use netsh advfirewall firewall set rule group="remote admin" new enable=Yes (I haven't tried this version of the command yet, so it may be different). You still either need to log in as the Administrator, or use the "Run as Administrator" option for Command Prompt.

When I try ro Sync Vista Caller ID with Microsoft office i get the following message.

Retreiving the COM class factory for component with CLSID (00006F03A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046) failed do to the following error: 80040154

I am running windows Vista and I do not see outlook installed but i have windows mail , is this the same as outlook?

How do I get Vista Caller ID to work on My Computer?

Hello.I use VCID in windows vista ultimate with Motorola SM56 Data Fax Modem and when someone calls me VCID shows my telephone(home) number and not the one from the incomming.I tried to call my home from my cellphone and instead of showing the cellphone number it shows me my home telephone number.Is this a bug? Please if anyone can help with this....

Recently, 80PLUS power supply has increased also in Japan.
It is likely to break down when UPS of the square wave is used when the ActivePFC power supply is used.

The power supply of the sine wave of APC is too expensive.
However, the price can be bought for UPS of the sine wave of omron cheaply even at home.

Omron is not more famous than APC.
It is a reliable business as the medical-equipment maker though Omron is not more famous than APC.

Please very, and support UPS of omron.

Hi Kurt,

Thanks for responding to my query. I probably should have put up two threads (I'm older generation and am still getting the hang of forums). I do hope however that I don't need Grid Junction to specifically support another type of UPS.

I was hoping someone with more UPS experience than me could confirm that a UPS that ships with Upsilon 2000 will be using the Megatec protocol (I haven't been able to find an app to use to query this directly from the UPS). My reading of Megatec's website suggests this is the case but I haven't been able to find anything detailed or independent. I think this is probably the most important thing I can tell Kentdome about this particular Upsonic UPS.

If you were able to point me in the right direction so I can work out how to confirm the connection protocol that would be great.

The UPS doesn't use any Upsonic specific software which I'm hoping makes it like lots of other UPS brands out there from a Grid Junction perspective.

The unit has both USB and RS232 Communication ports (I'm currently trying to use the USB connection).

I am really a novice at UPS' so I'm not sure what other relevant information I can provide that will help Kentdome potentially help me. Appreciate your patience.

I'll put my wierd experience with the HID Battery into a seperate thread with a better title and some screenshots.

Vista Caller ID Not Responding

I'm trying to get Vista Caller ID to work with a Windows 7 Media Center. The modem on the Windows 7 media center PC does not seem to support caller ID so I am trying to use a different PC and send the caller ID info to the Windows 7 media center PC. The other PC is a Vista machine with a modem that supports caller ID. I have succesfully installed Vista Caller ID on this Vista machine and it is displaying the popup and logging calls. I have checked off the option for the media center add-in and put the network name of the Windows 7 machine in the box.

I have installed both Vista caller ID and the media center add-in on the Windows 7 machine. When the phone rings the Vista machine correctly logs the call but on the Windows 7 machine I get errors. While in media center I get a pop-up box that says "vista caller ID has stopped responding". Outside of media center (but with it running in the background) I see an error that says "media center extensibility host has stopped responding". These things happen exactly when the phone rings so I am assuming that it is either associated with the two PCs communicating or the Windows 7 machine receiving the call itself.

Has anyone encountered this problem before?

What is the appropriate set-up for what I am trying to accomplish?

What exactly needs to be installed on each of the two PCs and how exactly should each be configured for this type of set-up?

Since 1.0.8 is already out in Beta, it is probably a little late to submit a feature request but since there isn't a feature request thread for 1.0.9, I'll throw my 2 cents in here.

Allow optional configuration of the pop-up window position. - Reason: Just about everything wants to pop up in the lower right-hand corner and this causes conflicts with other apps that have decided to pop-up a notification immediately before or after a call. There is, of course, the "Display Topmost" option but sometimes, things would just be better if the window could appear somewhere else.
Provide an option to specify the pop-up display time or one to permit manual rather than automatic dismissal. - Reason: I share a home office with my wife & if I'm out of the room momentarily when the phone rings, I have no idea as to whom has called.
Provide an option that will change the icon in the system tray once a call has been received. - Reason: Sometimes, I'm out of the office/house when calls come in and return to find that my wife has cleared the answering machine and has subsequently gone out herself. Having a modified icon would alert me to the fact that calls have come in. This feature would also permit the user to rest the icon back to its " no calls" state.
Allow the user to delete selected calls rather than the entire history. - Reason: I know that this was suggested earlier but it's a damn good idea.

Are you using the HID Serial to USB or USB to USB connection to connect your UPS to your WHS? Are you using the correct signalling cable? Could you please post a screenshot? Thanks
