I now have the convienience of checking my e-mail form anywhere. My only problem..........the Windows Home Server Console window is to small. When I start Outlook, it opens up in the largest space available in the Windows Home Server Console. The Windows Home Server Console window size is less than half the size of my screen. In the top right corner of this window, the middle button which should allow you to change to full screen size and then easily switch back to some custom size is sort of grayed out. It does not work. I know this is not a problem with the Outlook Add-In, it has something to do with the WHS console window. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Re: User Interface Initialization Failed

Mike,

This is what I did....

1. Uninstalled everything from my client PC.

2. Uninstalled everything from my WHS.

3. Deleted the WHS Quicken Connector Folder

4. Restarted everything

5. Installed the WHS Quicken Add-on

6. Verified all settings (were kept from previosu install including user rights)

7. Attempted to access from client and it worked no problem. (it did prompt to install the connector software but the reinstall did not recreate those files)

8. Found the file in my recycle bin from the previous troubleshooting attempt to install from client versus the server share

9. Installed the connector software

10. Started the app via the rdp file, no errors, and the tray icon appeared that never had before (related to my other post)

Issue seems to be resolved now. The only difference now from before which may be related to that line of code you mentioned is that the connector file directory on the WHS share is no longer there.

For thoroughness sake, I manually recreated the directory on the WHS share and copied the install file i had locally on my machine and reopened the app, again worked with no errors.

Not sure what else I can do now to help but let me know.

Thanks,

-DA

Re: Unable to install the WHS Quicken Connector

ISSUE SOLVED!

See post: "User Interface Initialization Failed"

Re: Allowing More Than Two Users To Connect To WHS Outlook At The Same Time

Hi Chris,

I'm not sure why you've posted this (again) here as it doesn't seem to fit the original topic at all. I have plans on updating WHS Outlook to work with Outlook 2010, but it's probably going to be a little while before I can do so. The main reason for it not working is Microsoft's implementation of the ribbon in the main Outlook Explorer interface. When you download an add-in via AC, it will check to see if the downloaded add-in is already installed on your home server or not. If it is installed, then AC will prompt you to perform an automatic update of the add-in. If you opt to do so, then AC will close down the current WHS Console session (to ensure that the already installed add-in's files are not locked "in-use"), attempt to uninstall the old version of the add-in, and then install the newer version. When it has finished the update process, it posts a notification letting you know that it is safe for you to open the WHS Console and begin using the updated version of the add-in.

In order to work it's auto-update magic, AC incorporates the use of a service (called the "Add-in Watcher Service") that does the uninstall/install work in the background. In order to do that, the service must log on under your server's Administrator account (which is why it prompts you for your Administrator account's password the very first time you attempt to use the auto-update feature). Now, with that being said, the auto-update feature only seems to be able to accommodate add-ins that have relatively simple MSI installer packages. The My Movies installer package does all kinds of crazy stuff (like installing MySql on your server, etc.) and so it just doesn't work well with AC's auto-update feature. We're still learning which add-ins work with it, and which ones don't. For the next build of AC, we'll add a feature that allows us to exclude certain add-ins (like My Movies, etc.). In those cases, you'll just have to do the uninstall/install cycle manually as you normally would when attempting to update an already installed add-in.

It is possible that the Advance Admin Console add-in is not compatible with AC's auto-update feature. I'll have to take a look at it. If it did fail on you, and you ended up with two versions of the add-in installed on your home server, then you should indeed go ahead and uninstall the oldest version using the WHS Console (just as you normally would). That should take care of the problem. If it doesn't then you may need to uninstall all installed versions, and then install only the latest one. If you run into any problem along the way, just shout and I'll be more than happy to help you out.

Sorry for the hassle on this one, but thanks for alerting me to the problem.

-- MIKE

Re: New Build Posted: Version 1.0.2.30

Hi Bryan,

I've now changed the add-in's class from free to commercial. When I run WHS Quicken and attempt to attach a file to a transaction (such as an image of a cancled check, etc.), I'm able to access all of the shared folders on the home server that the current user has been granted permission to. I simply drill down to "d:\shares" and I'm able to access the shared folders just fine (at least the ones that the current user has permissions to access anyway). Am I missing something, or possibly not understanding what exactly it is that you're after?

BTW, I'm simply right-clicking on a transaction in Quicken and selecting "Attachments" from the pop-up menu that appears. From there, I hit the "File..." button and select the attachment I want to use from the shared folder.

Also, note that if you are using the WHS Quicken Connector, then you can send files to the home server (and vice versa) even when you are not connected to your home network. Right-mouse-click on the desktop copy of the RDP file and select "Edit" from the popup menu that appears. Flip over to the "Display" tab of the Remote Desktop Connection window that appears, and set the resolution as desired. After that, flip back to the "General" tab and click on the "Save" button in order to save the changes that you just made.

Now any time you connect to WHS Quicken using that RDP file, it will use the screen size that you told it to use.

That's all there is to it.

-- MIKE
