Windows Home Server Console window

I purchased the Outlook Add-In and really like it. I now have the convienience of checking my e-mail form anywhere. My only problem..........the Windows Home Server Console window is to small. When I start Outlook, it opens up in the largest space available in the Windows Home Server Console. The Windows Home Server Console window size is less than half the size of my screen. In the top right corner of this window, the middle button which should allow you to change to full screen size and then easily switch back to some custom size is sort of grayed out. It does not work. I know this is not a problem with the Outlook Add-In, it has something to do with the WHS console window. Does anyone know how to fix this?

System Status not reporting on Media Stream page

This has just started to occur, on the page below you notice no information is displyed, all other functions seem to work but this page does not update. It started showing an error screen but when I rebooted stopped ? It basically said local machine refused the request ? 127.0.0.1 with a 9000 numbered port ?

Any ideas

I would love to be able to debounce the custom action for battery. Sometimes non-events (a real quick battery event that I would not have even noticed, maybe they are even self tests) trigger my custom action. I could change the trigger to critical but I would rather have notification right when I go to battery. As such a debounce (on battery for > 5 sec for example) would be of great use!

Thanks for the great tool, it really is a wonderful piece of software.

Also, in regards to the automated shutdown of other machines, I use ASoft AutoExit which provides many remote functions such as that. The ability to integrate with AutoExit could simplify the whole shutdown problem.

Mike,

This is what I did....

1. Uninstalled everything from my client PC.

2. Uninstalled everything from my WHS.

3. Deleted the WHS Quicken Connector Folder

4. Restarted everything

5. Installed the WHS Quicken Add-on

6. Verified all settings (were kept from previosu install including user rights)

7. Attempted to access from client and it worked no problem. (it did prompt to install the connector software but the reinstall did not recreate those files)

8. Found the file in my recycle bin from the previous troubleshooting attempt to install from client versus the server share

9. Installed the connector software

10. Started the app via the rdp file, no errors, and the tray icon appeared that never had before (related to my other post)

Issue seems to be resolved now. The only difference now from before which may be related to that line of code you mentioned is that the connector file directory on the WHS share is no longer there.

For thoroughness sake, I manually recreated the directory on the WHS share and copied the install file i had locally on my machine and reopened the app, again worked with no errors.

Not sure what else I can do now to help but let me know.

IC3 2009 Annual Report on Internet Crime Released
The Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3), a partnership between the FBI and the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C), released the 2009 Annual Report about fraudulent activity on the Internet today.
Online crime complaints increased substantially once again last year, according to the report. The IC3 received a total of 336,655 complaints, a 22.3 percent increase from 2008. The total loss linked to online fraud was $559.7 million; this is up from $265 million in 2008.

Although the complaints consisted of a variety of fraud types, advanced fee scams that fraudulently used the FBI's name ranked number one (16.6 percent). Non-delivery of merchandise and/or payment was the second most reported offense (11.9 percent).
The 2009 Annual Report details information related to the volume and scope of complaints, complainant and perpetrator characteristics, geographical data, most frequently reported scams and results of IC3 referrals.
“Law enforcement relies on the corporate sector and citizens to report when they encounter on-line suspicious activity so these schemes can be investigated and criminals can be arrested,” stated Peter Trahon, Section Chief of the FBI's Cyber Division. “Computer users are encouraged to have up-to-date security protection on their devices and evaluate email solicitations they receive with a healthy skepticism—if something seems too good to be true, it likely is.”
NW3C Director Donald Brackman said the report's findings underscore the threat posed by cyber criminals. “The figures contained in this report indicate that criminals are continuing to take full advantage of the anonymity afforded them by the Internet. They are also developing increasingly sophisticated means of defrauding unsuspecting consumers. Internet crime is evolving in ways we couldn't have imagined just five years ago.” But Brackman sounded an optimistic tone about the future. “With the public’s continued support, law enforcement will be better able to track down these perpetrators and bring them to justice.”

The CP1350AVRLCD should be supported, when you get it plugged it in but do not install the CyperPower software if you want to use Grid Junction, lastly install Grid Junction as the very last step!

I'm not sure why you've posted this (again) here as it doesn't seem to fit the original topic at all. Anyway...

You can try this:

1) Start a Remote Desktop Connection to your WHS as the Administrator.

2) From the Administrator's desktop select Start -> Run and type in "Regedit.exe" (without the quotes) and hit the OK button in order to start the Windows Registry Editor.

3) Expand the following registry branch:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer

4) In the right hand pane, right click -> new -> DWORD Value. Rename it to “NoDrives” (without the quotes).

5) Double-click on the newly created "NoDrives" value in order to edit it.

6) Change the "Base" setting to "Decimal" and then enter "12" (without the quotes) in the Value data field and click OK.

That should do it. Your users should now not be able to see the home server's SYS (C:) nor DATA (D:) drive from Quicken's File -> Open dialog box.

EDIT #1: Alternatively, if you'd like your users to be able to see the drives (but not be able to access them), then use "NoViewOnDrive" (without the quotes) in place of "NoDrives". When the user attempts to access the drive, they will simply receive an error message reading: This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.

EDIT #2: If you'd like the drive restrictions to apply to ALL drives (instead of just the SYS (C:) and DATA (D:) drives), then use a value of "67108863" (without the quotes) instead of "12".

What is the best quality and format to RIP Music to WHS

Another format to consider is FLAC.

The advantages are:

- It's 'lossless' - this means it is full CD quality

- Because it's lossless you can convert it to any other format later

The disadvantages are:

- Not all players support it, especially in the Microsoft world. You would have to convert if this were the case.

- The files are a lot bigger than MP3s (although still smaller than WAVs)

Worth considering anyway...

Problem installing & reinstalling Remote Alert add in

I was able to manually uninstall the add in thanks to the help of someone's previous post. However I'm still having a problem viewing the History tab. It will not display any information and I get an error that says:

"Cannot read log entry number 4319. The event log may be corrupt"

Any ideas?

Sugestions for improvment on Add-in Central

First of all, thank you for letting me join the test group.

I have been using the Add-in Central for some time now without any problem. I have some suggestions for improvements tho,

If would be great to have an e-mail notification when a new or updated Add-in is available. Everybody at home would be calm since the marker is green, but I would have some notification when I am out-stationed.
When a new or upgraded Add-in is available, it would be great if there would be an "uninstall old Add-in" button just to reduce risk of faliure when installing the upgraded one.

Hi John,

No, I'm sorry but it does not. At this point, it only works with Outlook XP/2002, Outlook 2003, and Outlook 2007. I have plans on updating WHS Outlook to work with Outlook 2010, but it's probably going to be a little while before I can do so. The main reason for it not working is Microsoft's implementation of the ribbon in the main Outlook Explorer interface. They've removed the main toolbar/command bar and replaced it with the newer ribbon thing-a-ma-jig instead.

Slow HP MSS Performance + Socket Error

Hi Everyone,

I am having a lot of issues with my HP MediaSmartServer. I suspect a configuration problem is bogging down performance. It all started last week when I installed a new 2TB Seagate HDD and in the process I performoned a factory reset. Since then even without any 3rd party add-ins installed the server is running very sluggish. Since then I have taken the time to carefully re-format, thinking the original install became corrupt but the result is the same sluggish behavior.

All the windows and HP updates are installed but the WHS Console lags and freezes and frequently it throws "No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 127.0.0.1:9247" followed by a server stack trace with socket info.

Is anyone else having this problem? My server is the HP MediaSmart EX495 (stock hardware)

FYI -- I received a respones from USR's techs. USR has dropped callerID and V92 from the Windows7 drivers for my modem (even though the product spec says the modem has these features). I like what you did here. I have one or two questions. How does this add-in work with mutiple complay files? and Does it impact or effect multi-user modes if someone is access the file through the add-inn while someone esle is access the same file on the local network?
