This article discusses how to establish a Remote Desktop connection to your Windows Home Server

The term Remote Desktop refers to graphical applications to be run remotely on a server. In essence, the remote desktop and all of the software applications which are located on the remote server are being displayed locally.

To establish a Remote Desktop connection to your Windows Home Server, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, click Communication, and then click Remote Desktop Connection. Or alternatively, in click Start, click Run or via the Search program and files field enter mstsc.exe , hit the Enter key.
  2. Enter your Windows Home Server computer name, for example SERVER and click the Connect button.
  3. Enter your Windows Home Server administrative credentials, the username will be Administrator and the password will be the password you use to connect to the Windows Home Server Console.
  4. The Remote Desktop window opens, and you see the desktop settings, files, and programs that are on your host computer, which in this example is your work computer. Your host computer remains locked, and nobody can access it without a password. In addition, no one will be able to see the work you are doing remotely.

To end your Remote Desktop session:

  1. Click Start, and then click Log Off at the bottom of the Start menu.
  2. When prompted, click Log Off.
