These are generic procedures on how to install Windows Home Server Add-ins.  More detailed information can be found in the Windows Home Server Help system.  The basic assumptions are the following.

  • Windows Home Server has been installed and you know the server name.
  • The computer you are using is connected with the Windows Home Server by a local area connection.
  • The Windows Home Server connector software has been installed on your computer.
  • The computer you are using is running Windows XP, Vista, or later.

In your internet browser, navigate to the page that contains the WHS Add-in you would like to install.  We will use Remote Alert as an example, however, these procedures are generic for any WHS Add-in.

1.  Click the "Download" link.

2.  The File Download dialog appears.  Click the "Save" button.

3.  Save the installation file in the Software\Add-Ins folder on the WHS.  The folder path will look like \\<ServerName>\Software\Add-Ins, where <ServerName> is the computer name of your WHS.

4.  When the download has completed, click the "Close" button.

5.  You are now ready to install the WHS Add-in.  Log on to the WHS Console and click the "Settings" option.  The Windows Home Server Settings window appears.  Do the following.

  • Click "Add-ins" in the left frame.
  • Click the "Available" tab in the Available Add-ins frame.
  • Click the "Install" button for the Add-in you have downloaded.

  6.  The Installation Succeeded dialog appears after the Add-in has completed its install.  Click the "OK" button to close the WHS Console.
