Sometimes when you change certain WHS configuration elements - for example, if you change your Windows Home Server name or network information - your Windows Home Server Console Connector may lose its connection to your Windows Home Server. Even a system restart will not help, the Windows Home Server tray icon will be grayed out.
The Windows Home Server Console Connector is tightly coupled to a specific WHS configuration and various WHS changes, such as the server name or IP can cause a client computer to lose its connection the server.

Solution:
One possible solution would be to uninstall and then re-install your currently installed WHS connector software. There is however a much simpler way to discover and re-bind your WHS connector software to your Windows Home Server.
1. On your client computer open Windows Explorer and navigate to the following directory:
%ProgramFiles%\Windows Home Server
And run the Discovery.exe program. Alternatively you can just execute the "Discovery.exe" file directly:
%ProgramFiles%\Windows Home Server\Discovery.exe
The Discovery program will attempt to locate your Windows Home Server. The wizard will gently guide you thru the steps. You must enter your Windows Home Server administrative password to rejoin your client computer to your WHS network.
Great for reconnecting to the WhS over a VPN connection back to the WhS box.
