Attempting to execute a downloaded executable or program  directly on your Windows Home Server or trying to execute a program using the UNC networking path  i.e. \\servername\software\program.exe may result in the following error message:

Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.

Solution:
Right click on the file in question, select properties, then click "Unblock", "Apply", then "OK" You will be able to run the file.
